A Prayer to God, My Rock

Lord God, You are my rock, my fortress, my deliverer

God I ask that You stand by me

be my shield,

my strong tower,

the One who lifts me up

because only You have the power

to encourage

as we walk through the fire.

There is no one like You My God,

no one.

Turn back the despair

and strengthen me.

In This Trusting

A sense of wonder prevails, rolling through the white,

descending from beyond the blue,

releasing a prayer

as my heart searches

for courage

I learn more of faith

here in this moment,

in this trusting,

so I am grateful

O Lord my God,

my rock.

One Single Prayer

One single prayer from a broken heart is worth more than

the most articulate sermon, as the shattered reaches

into the heavens for some hope, and a reason

to believe, looking even beyond the scars

being washed

with wholeness.

As for Me and My House

“But as for me and my household we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua 24:15b

So here God is bringing the Book of Joshua to a close. And he is challenging the people with choosing or making the right choice.

He is asking, Who are you going to follow? There are so many ways we can go in our world today. Will we walk with the One who has made us all?

Will we turn to Him daily, laying down our own lives? It is not a matter of praying a quick prayer, and suddenly “we’re in”.

An initial prayer is supposed to be only the beginning of a faith filled life!

Heavenly Father help us to choose to follow you each day! Fill us with faith and hope, as we make the right choices!

Amen and amen.

quote from the NIV Bible

The Glory of God

“When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven

and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices,

and the glory of the Lord filled the temple.

The priests could not enter the temple

of the Lord because the glory

of the Lord filled it.”

II Chronicles 7:1-2

Well the presence of the Lord is not exactly for wimps now is it? This was a very special time for the people of God. Solomon had just prayed as they dedicated the Temple to the Lord God. Can you imagine God’s presence so strong that you can’t go near Him?

And let’s remember this was the Temple that God instructed the people to build. He gave them specific instructions for it to be built a certain way. Before that there was the Tabernacle (basically a type of large tent), that God had given the people very specific directions for. But look what happens when these instructions are followed, and the people dedicate themselves to following Him! Wow.

So, for us today what specific instructions are we to follow? Yes, we are to follow the Scriptures, but do we read them? And do we allow God to work in us as individuals, making us into a type of temple?

Do we forgive others when we need to? Do we teach our children to do right, and be mindful of God? We may not have experiences like this today, but when we dedicate ourselves to the One Who made everything, something powerful does take place!

Lord God, help us to be people that are dedicated to You. Help us to experience You daily and help us to be in awe of You. Work in us and through us! May we be worthy mini-temples! Amen and amen.

quote from the NIV Bible

In Every Heart

Lord God, You know what’s in every heart,

every need, all our wants,

every fear, all our courage

our lack of faith, our strong belief.

May You watch over us, guard

our hearts, keep us

under the shadow

of Your wings.

Be our strength

when we call to You.

I praise You My God,

may You be glorified,

forever and ever.

In the Shadow of Your Wings

“How priceless is your unfailing love! Both high and low

among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings.

They feast on the abundance of your house

you give them drink from your river of delights.”

Psalm 36: 7, 8

Being under the shadow of His wings means to be under His protection, under His care. And when times are tough we can seek refuge in these wings!

And God provides for us in so many wonderful ways. We can drink from His fountains.

Years ago, I saw the bill from Johns Hopkins Hospital for my wife’s cancer treatment and transplant. It was over $400,000.

And yet God provided because we had good health insurance. I’m convinced she’s alive and doing well now, because of the care she received. The Lord God covered us – with His wings!

God we praise You and thank You for all that You provide. Thank You for protecting and caring for each of us. Hallelujah!!

Your Love Lord

“Your love Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.

Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep.”

Psalm 36: 5, 6a

Here is some of that beautiful language the Psalms are so famous for. Do we think of God this way?

You see our faith is so much more than dry words or obscure concepts. These words are so filled with love, so filled with life.

God is so unlimited that when we follow Him, He can cause our spirits to soar! And if we allow Him to, He will fill us with faith. Hallelujah!

Lord God thank You for Your beautiful words, that encourage us. Please continue to fill us with a strong faith and love for You!!

Amen and amen.

A Humble Heart

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'”

Psalm 91: 1, 2

Lord God, help me to remember

not to trust in chariots,

with ten horses running,

but to simply pray

with a humble heart.

My Strength and My Defense

“The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.

Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous:

The Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!”

Psalm 118: 14-15

Are there shouts of joy and victory in your tents? There are times the Psalms are quiet and reflective, and then there are verses like these, that celebrate the greatness of God and the wonders He has done! Another way of saying this is – make some noise! Wahoo! Because God is amazing.

Now if you don’t have a church like that, you can always make some noise at home, or even in your heart. But the point is, that our worship should at some point have a praise element.

We are to focus our minds on the greatness of God, and dwell on the wonderful things He has done. And you know what? When we do this, it’s almost impossible to feel down or blue.

Heavenly Father we praise You, and thank You for Who You are, and the amazing things You have done in each of our lives! Continue to guide us and strengthen our faith, with a sense of joy. Hallelujah! And amen.
