Victory Rests with the Lord

20170916_124207

“There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan

that can succeed against the Lord.

The horse is made ready for the day of battle,

but victory rests with the Lord.”

Proverbs 21: 30, 31

I’m so glad God’s wisdom, and insight is higher than ours! Much stronger than ours!

We do have battles we face don’t we? And you what? We will not win every one of them.

But perhaps when things don’t go well, it is God’s way of moving us forward, but in a different direction.

We have to do our part though, we have to get our horses ready!

Lord God Almighty, please help us to be ready for the battles we face, and help us to walk closely with You.

We ask for Your help in the midst of what we face, sometimes daily.

And Lord please comfort our hearts in the battles we do not win. We know You have our future in Your hands. Amen!

Love and Faithfulness

100_1069.JPG

“Let love and faithfulness never leave you;

bind them around your neck, write them

on the tablet of your heart.”

Proverbs 3:3

What a beautiful way to describe God’s heart for us. We know that God loves us, so I think this is pointing us to the love and faithfulness that we should carry, for Him and other people.

Remember the two greatest commandments? They are loving God, and loving our neighbor as ourselves.

Binding them around our neck could mean several things. It could be an illustration for showing other people, our love and faithfulness, as in wearing jewelry. But in this context, it seems to be more of reminding ourselves, to love and to be faithful.

And I love the illustration of writing them down on the tablet of our heart – no not the electronic kind, although that could work! Here God is speaking of stone tablets and carving them or etching them onto our hearts! Sounds kind of permanent doesn’t it?

May love and faithfulness never leave us!

Heavenly Father, may we continue to develop in our love for You, and other people. Help us, and strengthen us in our faith, that we would carry around an attitude of being faithful! Amen.

Keep My Words

20161015_131559

“My son, keep my words and store up my commands

within you. Keep my commands and you will live;

guard my teachings

as the apple of your eye.”

Proverbs 7: 1, 2

Once again God reminds us, to do more than just listen to what He says. There is blessing in the doing.

Does this sound like too much law, and not enough Spirit? Well, remember in the Gospel of John, we are told that if we love God, we will keep His commandments. And remember the book of James? We are to be doers of His word, and not hearers only.

Yes, there is benefit in following Him, but what is God really after? Well the whole point of this portion is contained in the last 2 lines.

Keeping or guarding His teachings as the apple of our eye, means simply we are to listen to and do His teachings, out of love, or because we love Him.

More than anything, God wants us to love Him. If we do that, the rest falls into place.

Heavenly Father help us to love You, even when we do not understand our circumstances. Help us to pray each day, and to trust in You, as we follow Your teachings. Amen!

A Friend Loves at All Times

20160418_122232

“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.”

Proverbs 17:17

Have you ever been through a tough time, and friends were there to help you through it? I have too.

And like wise have you ever been through something horrible, and even life changing, and there was no one there to help you? Yep, I’ve been there too! I think it depends on what period of our life we are in.

But a friend, a true friend is there regardless of our life circumstances. And you know what? We are to be there for them as well. That’s what friends are for, that’s what friends do.

So be there when you’re needed, even if it does cost some time, maybe some inconvenience. Your friend is worth investing in.

And when this verse mentions a “brother”, this is a about a blood brother. Family is to be and should be there for us, in times of adversity. If that doesn’t happen in our life or if our family is gone now, we should not give up. Pray instead. Perhaps God would send some people to be part of our life as a type of family.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the people in our lives, both friends and family, that can be a support for us during our times of need. And thank You Our God, that we can be part of their circle of support as well.

And Lord God we lift up to You those that have no one. Please give them the strength they need to make it through their circumstances. And if it is Your will, please give them some good people, give them some good friends, as part of their circle.

We trust in You God. Amen.

Life, Prosperity and Honor

20171024_163042

“Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life,

prosperity and honor.

One who is wise can go up

against the city of the mighty

and pull down the stronghold

in which they trust.”

Proverbs 21: 22, 22

Notice that there are two main areas where can find life, prosperity and honor. Righteousness here means in doing right, and of course there is love.

This reminds me so much of the Book of James! In other words putting our faith into action, not only walking around with having faith in our hearts.

And when we are wise in this way we have victory over powerful forces that attempt to hold us back!

Thank you Father God for these encouraging words! Help us to be living examples of Who you are, and help us to live victorious lives. Amen!

Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart

100_1300

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Proverbs:3, 5, 6

These verses are famous and many have heard them quoted. But they are so well known because of their truth, and they meet us right where we are. To be honest it is tough when things happen and we don’t understand why!

People get sick, relationships end and we are baffled! What happened!! Or how did this happen? In the times and experiences that are traumatizing there may be no answers. So, that is where trust comes in.

When we do trust Him, even within the traumatic experience, He will lead us, and make a way for us, maybe differently than we thought, but He will lead us.

Lord God Almighty, please help us in circumstances we cannot understand, that You would guide us, strengthen us, and lead us when they happen. Amen!

P.S. My friends I ask for your prayers as I continue to pray and contemplate how this blog should be done. I never thought of posting poetry here, and yet poetry is so much a part of who I am. It just flows.

I also did not seek to create a blog simply to attract Christians only. My vision has always been that all are welcomed here, and I seek to attract people of different cultures, and faiths, yes right here. I am a student really of cultures different than my own. I would love for this blog to broaden its scope, to an international community.

Pray that I would be led, and use the talents God has given me, to be a vessel for Him.

The Way of the Lord is a Refuge

100_0978

“The way of the Lord is a refuge for the blameless, but it is the ruin of those who do evil.”

Proverbs 10: 29

Did you know following God is a type of refuge? Yes, and by “blameless” this verse does not mean absolutely without faults, and perfect. Otherwise our faith would be only based on how many good deeds we do, and that’s not it.

But blameless does mean trusting, with a determination to do what is right. It means allowing God to work in our lives. And God is pointing out a principle here, that those who do evil need to stop, quick, fast, and in a hurry. Otherwise they will be ruined for an eternity.

Heavenly Father, help us not to be self-righteous, but to trust in You! Continue to work in us, as we follow You, and be our refuge in times when we need protection! Amen.

Humility

100_0557

“Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages

are riches and honor and life.”

Proverbs 22: 4

It does take humility to believe in God, and to follow Him. And when we see the word fear in this verse, it is the type of fear that says I respect and have a reverence for God, so therefore I will do what He wants.

And when we do right according to God’s ways, He rewards us on many different levels. This is not a technique or method though to get rich! We can prosper in so many ways, in health, in our relationships with others, and in a life of peace!

Lord God thank You, that when we follow You, and when we choose to follow Your ways, there are great blessings, on many different levels. Help us God, strengthen our faith, and may we always have an attitude of humility, amen.

To Do What is Right

100_1127

“A person may think their own ways are right,

but the Lord weighs the heart.

To do what is right and just

is more acceptable to the Lord

than sacrifice.”

Proverbs 21: 2, 3

Have you ever noticed there are times when we think we are right, and what we are doing is ok, only to find out later we are wrong! Yep, I think we all have those times.

And I love how the Lord weighs our hearts. That means He examines us, or measures our hearts – to see what is in them.

And doing what is right is more important than sacrifice! Now for us I think that means prayer. What?? Doing what is right is more important than prayer?? Yes, especially if that involves forgiving someone, or being forgiven.

That’s what Matthew 5 is all about. Forgive first – then pray! Ain’t that cool?

Heavenly Father, thank You that you love us so much, that You want what is best for us. And You want us to do what is right! Thank You God, in Christ’s name, amen.

Bringing the Refreshing

100_1296

“One person gives freely, yet gains even more;

another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.

A generous person will prosper;

whoever refreshes others

will be refreshed.”

Proverbs 11: 24, 25

Have you ever noticed how stingy people lose out on so much joy? And it not only is it a joy to give, but how humbling and refreshing it can be when we are on the receiving end!

Years ago my wife and I went on a missions trip overseas. We stayed in an empty house, which also served as the meeting place for a church. And yes we were roughing it with no beds, but we slept in our sleeping bags on the tile floor.

One day a refrigerator made an appearance, and soon there after we found food in it, and we were told it was all for us. Talk about humbling! We were so blessed and wondered where it all came from. This was a poor country and the people did not have much at all.

It wasn’t until the end of our time there, we found out the refrigerator belonged to one of the pastors, and they were the ones that had stocked it with food. They had taken from their own house, and their own family, and had given it all to us.

We were so humbled we cried, and it still brings me to tears.

Heavenly Father, thank you that in this mixed up, crazy world there are still people that love You, and care about others. Thank You for all those that give and bring refreshing to others. In Christ’s name, amen.
