Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart

100_1300

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Proverbs:3, 5, 6

These verses are famous and many have heard them quoted. But they are so well known because of their truth, and they meet us right where we are. To be honest it is tough when things happen and we don’t understand why!

People get sick, relationships end and we are baffled! What happened!! Or how did this happen? In the times and experiences that are traumatizing there may be no answers. So, that is where trust comes in.

When we do trust Him, even within the traumatic experience, He will lead us, and make a way for us, maybe differently than we thought, but He will lead us.

Lord God Almighty, please help us in circumstances we cannot understand, that You would guide us, strengthen us, and lead us when they happen. Amen!

P.S. My friends I ask for your prayers as I continue to pray and contemplate how this blog should be done. I never thought of posting poetry here, and yet poetry is so much a part of who I am. It just flows.

I also did not seek to create a blog simply to attract Christians only. My vision has always been that all are welcomed here, and I seek to attract people of different cultures, and faiths, yes right here. I am a student really of cultures different than my own. I would love for this blog to broaden its scope, to an international community.

Pray that I would be led, and use the talents God has given me, to be a vessel for Him.

The Way of the Lord is a Refuge

100_0978

“The way of the Lord is a refuge for the blameless, but it is the ruin of those who do evil.”

Proverbs 10: 29

Did you know following God is a type of refuge? Yes, and by “blameless” this verse does not mean absolutely without faults, and perfect. Otherwise our faith would be only based on how many good deeds we do, and that’s not it.

But blameless does mean trusting, with a determination to do what is right. It means allowing God to work in our lives. And God is pointing out a principle here, that those who do evil need to stop, quick, fast, and in a hurry. Otherwise they will be ruined for an eternity.

Heavenly Father, help us not to be self-righteous, but to trust in You! Continue to work in us, as we follow You, and be our refuge in times when we need protection! Amen.

Humility

100_0557

“Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages

are riches and honor and life.”

Proverbs 22: 4

It does take humility to believe in God, and to follow Him. And when we see the word fear in this verse, it is the type of fear that says I respect and have a reverence for God, so therefore I will do what He wants.

And when we do right according to God’s ways, He rewards us on many different levels. This is not a technique or method though to get rich! We can prosper in so many ways, in health, in our relationships with others, and in a life of peace!

Lord God thank You, that when we follow You, and when we choose to follow Your ways, there are great blessings, on many different levels. Help us God, strengthen our faith, and may we always have an attitude of humility, amen.

To Do What is Right

100_1127

“A person may think their own ways are right,

but the Lord weighs the heart.

To do what is right and just

is more acceptable to the Lord

than sacrifice.”

Proverbs 21: 2, 3

Have you ever noticed there are times when we think we are right, and what we are doing is ok, only to find out later we are wrong! Yep, I think we all have those times.

And I love how the Lord weighs our hearts. That means He examines us, or measures our hearts – to see what is in them.

And doing what is right is more important than sacrifice! Now for us I think that means prayer. What?? Doing what is right is more important than prayer?? Yes, especially if that involves forgiving someone, or being forgiven.

That’s what Matthew 5 is all about. Forgive first – then pray! Ain’t that cool?

Heavenly Father, thank You that you love us so much, that You want what is best for us. And You want us to do what is right! Thank You God, in Christ’s name, amen.

Bringing the Refreshing

100_1296

“One person gives freely, yet gains even more;

another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.

A generous person will prosper;

whoever refreshes others

will be refreshed.”

Proverbs 11: 24, 25

Have you ever noticed how stingy people lose out on so much joy? And it not only is it a joy to give, but how humbling and refreshing it can be when we are on the receiving end!

Years ago my wife and I went on a missions trip overseas. We stayed in an empty house, which also served as the meeting place for a church. And yes we were roughing it with no beds, but we slept in our sleeping bags on the tile floor.

One day a refrigerator made an appearance, and soon there after we found food in it, and we were told it was all for us. Talk about humbling! We were so blessed and wondered where it all came from. This was a poor country and the people did not have much at all.

It wasn’t until the end of our time there, we found out the refrigerator belonged to one of the pastors, and they were the ones that had stocked it with food. They had taken from their own house, and their own family, and had given it all to us.

We were so humbled we cried, and it still brings me to tears.

Heavenly Father, thank you that in this mixed up, crazy world there are still people that love You, and care about others. Thank You for all those that give and bring refreshing to others. In Christ’s name, amen.

One Who is Wise

20170415_115431.jpg

“Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity, and honor.

One who is wise can go up against the city of the mighty

and pull down the stronghold

in which they trust.”

Proverbs 21: 21, 22

Do you pursue righteousness and love? It’s not easy in today’s world. When we do follow God’s ways, good things take place in our lives, but that should never be our motive. It’s simply a matter of side benefits.

And when we are operating in the wisdom from above, we will be able to face the very tough circumstances in our lives. I love how that’s worded here.

Heavenly Father help us to pursue righteousness, and love, and help us to gain wisdom from You. Help us to overcome the tough things that can attempt to diminish ,or even destroy our faith in You. Amen.

Wisdom, and Understanding

20170503_164504

“Get wisdom, get understanding;

do not forget my words or turn away from them.

Do not forsake wisdom,

and she will protect you;

love her, and she will watch over you.”

Proverbs 4: 5, 6

Did you know that God’s wisdom protects you? I don’t know about you, but I could use an extra shield or two!

Lord God, thank you for Your wisdom! Help us to soak in Your words, your will for us, that we can be wise, and live for you.

Amen.

This Little Light of Mine

20170503_163308

“The human spirit is the lamp of the Lord that sheds light on one’s inmost being.”

Proverbs 20: 27

I think this verse is telling us that God works through us, and specifically through our spirits (the internal part that we cannot see).

Our spirit is so important, that it serves as a lamp. Remember the children’s song “This Little Light of Mine”?

And when He does work through us, we indeed become light for ourselves and for others.

Heavenly Father, help us to live for you and be a light shining brightly! Amen.

Those Who Plan What is Good

20170531_193908

“It is a sin to despise one’s neighbor,

but blessed is the one who is kind

to the needy.

Do not those who plot evil go astray?

But those who plan what is good

find love and faithfulness.”

Proverbs 14: 21, 22

It’s interesting that these two verses are next to each other. God truly cares about our neighbors and we should too. Remember the two greatest commandments?

And I love the idea that there are blessings in caring for the poor. It’s my opinion, (just my opinion) that this includes providing health care, instead of trying to take it away.

Let us plan too, good things for ourselves and others.

Lord God please help us to be the kind, caring people You want us to be, including caring for the needy. Amen.

Wisdom is Found

20170317_130233

“Where there is strife, there is pride,

but wisdom is found

in those who take advice.”

Proverbs 13:10

Ever notice how you can trust someone that is humble enough to take advice?

Lord God, help us to listen, as you speak to us, through people we know and trust. Amen.
