The Glory of the Lord

20160514_175924

“…I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.

And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”

Isaiah 6: 1b – 3

Sometimes God can seem scary. In this call of Isaiah as a prophet, God decides to bring a revelation to him, of the majesty and holiness of who He is. It is very much like the final book of the Bible, the book of Revelation.

So why does God do this? Well sometimes people need to understand the holiness of God in order to be reminded of how great He is, and that we as humans need to follow Him from our hearts, and sometimes we need to be cleansed. We need a greater awareness of who He is.

Further in this chapter Isaiah says, “I am undone!”. He realizes he needs to be cleansed, and God does cleanse him in an unusual way.

But it is not a matter of God being mean, it’s a matter of Him being far above His creation.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the reminder of Your holiness, and that there is cleansing when we need it. And thank you for so many examples of people following You, seeking to do what is right, and doing great things – living for You. Amen!

I Will Be With You

100_1499

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.

When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior….”

Isaiah 43: 2, 3a

God really did protect the people of Israel in so many ways, didn’t He? And yet how do we apply these verses today?

We know there are hurricanes, flooding, and other natural disasters that do take place, even to people that are walking closely with Him. Devastation is in so many parts of our world right now.

I believe we can look at these verses today with the eyes of faith, as beautiful illustrations that God does protect us, that we are under His care. We can be encouraged greatly by also focusing on the positive things that God is doing in our lives, right now!

He protects us all the time! Isn’t that so cool?

Heavenly Father You are so awesome, and You protect us in so many ways, sometimes without us knowing or even thinking about it. Thank You My God! Guide us through the disasters in our lives when they do take place, and may we continue to trust in you! Amen.

Soaring on Wings Like Eagles

20170628_172207

“…but those who hope in the Lord

will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings

like eagles;

they will run and not grow weary,

they will walk

and not be faint.”

Isaiah 40: 30, 31

Note: The word for hope here is not a passive term, as in waiting for a bus. It is an active word, as in seeking and trusting in.

I believe this is the essential part of having faith.

Isaiah 58: 11

“The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs

in a sun scorched land and will strengthen your frame.

You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring

whose waters never fail.”

Lord God we are so thirsty from the trials

of the day, please guide us to Your spring

and well-watered garden, where

we can rest.

Amen

Isaiah 51:1-3a

100_1458

Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the Lord:

Look to the rock from which you were cut and to the quarry

from which you were hewn; look to Abraham, your father,

and to Sarah, who gave you birth. When I called

him he was but one, and I blessed him

and made him many. The Lord

will surely comfort Zion

and will look with compassion,

on all her ruins…
