Like an Eagle

20171018_150721

“In a desert land he found him, in a barren and howling waste. He shielded him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of his eye,

like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them aloft.”

Deuteronomy 32: 10, 11

I love this portion and the way it speaks of God caring for us. Sounds like the Psalms – doesn’t it?

But what does it mean to be the apple of His eye? Well I think it means we are lovely in His sight.

But notice we didn’t start out this way! He redeemed us from the wasteland of not following Him!

And I love the illustration of God being like an eagle. Can’t you just picture Him spreading His wings over us? So cool!

Lord God thank You for redeeming us and caring about us.

And thank You for these beautiful words that encourage us! Thank You my God!

Amen and amen.

One Single Prayer

20170415_115501

One single prayer from a broken heart is worth more than

the most articulate sermon, as the shattered reaches

into the heavens for some hope, and a reason

to believe, looking even beyond the scars

being washed

with wholeness.

A Psalm from My Heart

20170929_145532 (1)

Search me oh God, examine my heart, my mind and may You find Your light

living boldly, yet humbly within my frame. I long to walk

in Your ways as You have guided me.

Only in Your strength can I

hike those trails you have given.

Be with me, walk with me

give me courage,

my God I beseech You,

amen.

Friday Focus – Faith and Blogging

20171001_150040

So many of you have wonderful sites, and you keep me encouraged! And I love seeing faith based sites grow and do well.

But not all of them do, in fact faith is not always that popular is it? We must not be discouraged if only a few people follow our blog or respond to our posts.

Even though we can modify our blogs, we can do so without losing sight of who we are, or our beliefs.

I like to post a quote from the Scriptures, and write a few lines about it. I think it can be beautiful to share some insight.

And as far as sites in our readers, I’ve learned to keep it light! I do check out other sites but I can’t possibly follow everyone.

When I first started blogging I followed so many blogs I would spend 2 hours everyday going through posts. I can’t do that anymore.

Some bloggers post 8-10 times everyday. If that happens I usually unfollow. And you shouldn’t feel bad about doing that! Make your site the way you want it.

Diversity is always fun, even for us faith based folks! I love travel sites, artists, and photographers. I think my favorite type of faith based site is poetry.

And it’s ok to follow people that are different from us! Bloggers do have different beliefs, and that’s ok, that’s how we learn!

So enjoy your blogging experience, and share a little light!

Thank you for traveling with me. I wish you peace.

Stronger Faith Through Tough Times

20160418_122232

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,

whenever you face trials

of many kinds,

because you know

that the testing of your faith

produces perseverance.”

James 1: 2,3

God really does know when we face difficult circumstances. So how can He say to us to consider those circumstances or contemplate them with joy? How is that even possible?

I hate tough times, I think we all do if we admit it.  And yet God is encouraging us here because He sees the bigger picture!

He can see something taking place internally that is actually positive. I think by perseverance God means that we get stronger or rather our faith becomes stronger.

Ever seen a cancer patient survive? I have. What an incredible boost to us and strengthening of us that is!

I’m also reminded of an athlete that gets stronger, or faster due to resistance! Wow, so cool.

Lord God it is difficult to see the good or positive within difficult circumstances, but help us to see the big picture!

Do a work in us, and through us to make our faith, our trusting in You, even stronger. Help our roots to go down deeper. Only You can do this Lord God Almighty. Amen and amen!

The Wonders You Have Done

20170503_161625

“Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders you have done.

The things you planned for us no one can recount

to you; were I to speak and tell of them,

they would be too many to declare.”

Psalm 40: 5

We all know that God blesses us each day, but have we ever counted our blessings? We could fill books, volumes even if we kept a record of them. When we really think about how He takes care of us each day, we can have our hearts filled with gratitude!

And what is also amazing is that the King of the Universe, the Creator of all things, has more good in store for us! Did you know God has plans for you? Perhaps it will be continued good health, or maybe that job we really need. And for us older folks retirement is not far away!

The point is, God is not only mighty and powerful, He is faithful and cares about each one of us!

Thank You Heavenly Father for all of the blessings You have poured out on us, simply because You care. And thank You God that You have good plans in store for each one of us! Amen and amen.

Angels

20160610_160237

“The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.”

Psalm 34: 7

Did you know God has assigned angels to us? Now is that cool or what? And not only that, but they are “encamped” around us! Wow.

I have never seen an angel, but it is amazing to think about isn’t it? Why does God do this?

I believe He has placed this verse in the Psalms in order to encourage us! This is one of those verses that God gives us to say, “I’ve got your back!” In other words, He is showing his love and concern for us. Indeed, He is protecting us!!

And this verse continues with, He delivers us. Another way of looking at this verse, is that God sees everything we face and go through, He is right there, and He will take us through to the other side.

The terrible things that happen, do not last forever! He will make a way for us! Remember Israel standing at the Red Sea? They thought there was no way out…..but God…….Hallelujah!! Do I hear an amen? Praise You Lord God.

Thank you Heavenly Father, for this verse and so many others that encourage us, and lift us up, and beyond whatever we are facing! Continue to protect us and deliver us, according to Your will. Amen.

Always in Your Strength

20171018_150605

Lord God, I pray You would help me to be true to myself,

to be who You have created me to be,

even if I am different

or not far to the right,

empower me to speak

the poems in my heart,

to be filled with Your light,

and to walk always

in Your strength.

Amen.

Holiday Traditions

purple and white flowers

This is such a beautiful time of year. Traditions enrich our faith walk, adding depth in many ways. But how many wise men were there? Three?

Well actually, the Scriptures do not indicate the exact number. We get the number three from the three gifts, of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. There could have been three, or two, or even twenty-two.

Notable people with valuable gifts usually travelled with an entourage, perhaps even armed guards. So, it would be perfectly plausible to think of the team of wise men having with them forty – fifty people!

And the Messiah was probably not born on the 25th of December. Many Bible scholars believe He was actually born in the fall. But you know what? That’s OK.

We do not have to give in to fundamentalism, or strict judgement that hates what it sees as deviations in the faith. I’ve been on both sides of the aisle, and I can tell you for sure that celebrating Christmas is a wonderful, even God-given blessing.

We can celebrate the light of this season, wrapping ourselves in the splendor, the majesty, the hope God has given us.

Heavenly Father bless us with the sense of hope we all need, while focusing on the light coming into the world, during this Christmas season. Help us to be filled with joy as we sing Christmas carols. We thank You and praise You God! Amen.
