I Trust In You Anyway

20170930_170251

In our trauma, we often pray for hope

taking one more step forward

and sometimes

courage

is simply saying,

I trust in You

anyway.

Angels

20160610_160237

“The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.”

Psalm 34: 7

Did you know God has assigned angels to us? Now is that cool or what? And not only that, but they are “encamped” around us! Wow.

I have never seen an angel, but it is amazing to think about isn’t it? Why does God do this?

I believe He has placed this verse in the Psalms in order to encourage us! This is one of those verses that God gives us to say, “I’ve got your back!” In other words, He is showing his love and concern for us. Indeed, He is protecting us!!

And this verse continues with, He delivers us. Another way of looking at this verse, is that God sees everything we face and go through, He is right there, and He will take us through to the other side.

The terrible things that happen, do not last forever! He will make a way for us! Remember Israel standing at the Red Sea? They thought there was no way out…..but God…….Hallelujah!! Do I hear an amen? Praise You Lord God.

Thank you Heavenly Father, for this verse and so many others that encourage us, and lift us up, and beyond whatever we are facing! Continue to protect us and deliver us, according to Your will. Amen.

Always in Your Strength

20171018_150605

Lord God, I pray You would help me to be true to myself,

to be who You have created me to be,

even if I am different

or not far to the right,

empower me to speak

the poems in my heart,

to be filled with Your light,

and to walk always

in Your strength.

Amen.

Holiday Traditions

purple and white flowers

This is such a beautiful time of year. Traditions enrich our faith walk, adding depth in many ways. But how many wise men were there? Three?

Well actually, the Scriptures do not indicate the exact number. We get the number three from the three gifts, of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. There could have been three, or two, or even twenty-two.

Notable people with valuable gifts usually travelled with an entourage, perhaps even armed guards. So, it would be perfectly plausible to think of the team of wise men having with them forty – fifty people!

And the Messiah was probably not born on the 25th of December. Many Bible scholars believe He was actually born in the fall. But you know what? That’s OK.

We do not have to give in to fundamentalism, or strict judgement that hates what it sees as deviations in the faith. I’ve been on both sides of the aisle, and I can tell you for sure that celebrating Christmas is a wonderful, even God-given blessing.

We can celebrate the light of this season, wrapping ourselves in the splendor, the majesty, the hope God has given us.

Heavenly Father bless us with the sense of hope we all need, while focusing on the light coming into the world, during this Christmas season. Help us to be filled with joy as we sing Christmas carols. We thank You and praise You God! Amen.

Victory Rests with the Lord

20170916_124207

“There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan

that can succeed against the Lord.

The horse is made ready for the day of battle,

but victory rests with the Lord.”

Proverbs 21: 30, 31

I’m so glad God’s wisdom, and insight is higher than ours! Much stronger than ours!

We do have battles we face don’t we? And you what? We will not win every one of them.

But perhaps when things don’t go well, it is God’s way of moving us forward, but in a different direction.

We have to do our part though, we have to get our horses ready!

Lord God Almighty, please help us to be ready for the battles we face, and help us to walk closely with You.

We ask for Your help in the midst of what we face, sometimes daily.

And Lord please comfort our hearts in the battles we do not win. We know You have our future in Your hands. Amen!

A Prayer for Cancer Patients

20171001_145939.jpg

Lord God, you know everything we face, and for those facing cancer right now, we ask that you would be with them in a special way.

You know the pain, You know the fear, Lord God bring comfort and hope.

Bring encouraging words through family and friends, and Lord – maybe even some hugs!

Please help the doctors to help each patient according to their needs.

And Lord God, if it is Your will please bring healing!! We humbly ask You our God. Amen.

Acceptable Religion

100_5778

“Religion that our God and Father accepts as pure and faultless is this:

to look after orphans and widows in their distress

and to keep oneself

from being polluted by the world.”

James 1:27

I know you’re probably thinking, is it really that simple? That if we show compassion for people in need, and keep ourselves walking with God and doing what is good, that’s all we need to do?

Well in a way, yes. Notice James uses the word “religion” instead of faith. Our religion needs to focus on these two areas.

You know what these two areas remind of? – the Two Greatest Commandments, according to the Messiah, are to love God, and love our neighbor as ourselves.

You see, if you love God you won’t want to be polluted. Now I know we each have a different standard on this and that’s ok. But let me give you an example.

Many of us watch movies, and I happen to like science fiction. It’s great adventure, but it’s pretend. When there’s cruelty though, I will sometimes fast forward, regardless of what kind of movie it is. I do not like violence.

And as far as compassion, if we treated our neighbor as ourselves, we would make sure they have enough food to eat, a decent place to live, and even medical care! In other words, anything that we would do to take care of ourselves, we should help others to do, if they are unable.

Lord God thank you for working in our lives. Help us to love You, and to love those in need! Make us into the people you want us to be. Amen.

Your Word is a Lamp

20170726_152923.jpg

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

I have taken an oath and confirmed it,

that I will follow your righteous laws.”

Psalm 119: 105, 106

One of the reasons I love the Psalms is you can really sense the heart of the Psalmist. He frequently asks God to teach him His ways.

And here we see a guy sold out, so intent on following our Creator that he takes an oath to follow Him and His ways.

Heavenly Father help us to have the kind of faith that actively seeks You, and that seeks to know You better. We love You God, help us to live for You. Amen.

He Showed Me the Wonders of His Love

20150922_180032

“Praise be to the Lord, for he showed me the wonders

of his love

when I was in a city under siege.”

Psalm 31: 21

Wow, have you ever felt like you were in a city being attacked on every side? Some days can be like that, and it may not be a matter of people attacking, but things can go so terribly wrong. For example, you’re late for work, and the car won’t start, and the dog just threw up and needs to be taken to the vet!

But look at how God responds to us. In these really tough moments, He showed the Psalmist the wonders of His love! Wow, is that cool or what??

Father God You know how we need you in those moments that things are falling apart around us. Thank you My God, that You are right there in the midst of these times. Please encourage us, and help us by giving us a calm spirit, and wisdom on how to deal with it. Amen and amen!
