He Delivered Me

20180428_171543

“Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together. I sought the Lord,

and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him

are radiant; their faces are never covered in shame.”

Psalm 34: 3 – 5

Here the psalmist exalts God, remembering the great things He has done!

When we remember what God has done, several things happen within us. Fear gets pushed aside as our faith becomes stronger!

Our trust also becomes stronger because we know with confidence that God has been faithful to us in the past. Hallelujah!

Notice that this section begins with praise and exalting God! If there is a sure fire way to beat fear and being down, it is by praising the One who made us all! Hallelujah!

And I love the phrase of “those that look to him”. Look what happens when we keep our focus on Him. We become radiant!!

Hallelujah my King!

Lord God You are so awesome! Help us to keep our focus on You, and deliver us my God, from all that tries to hinder us in our daily lives!

Amen! Say amen somebody!

In Those Valleys

20170628_170044

It is in those valleys where I can hardly hear You

where my thoughts overtake Your streams,

and worry blinds my eyes

to Your strength already given

it is there Lord God

that I need You to teach me,

to show me how

to let go of the noise

and listen

to the peace

You have already planted

deep within

my being.

Amen.

Stronger Faith Through Tough Times

20160418_122232

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,

whenever you face trials

of many kinds,

because you know

that the testing of your faith

produces perseverance.”

James 1: 2,3

God really does know when we face difficult circumstances. So how can He say to us to consider those circumstances or contemplate them with joy? How is that even possible?

I hate tough times, I think we all do if we admit it.  And yet God is encouraging us here because He sees the bigger picture!

He can see something taking place internally that is actually positive. I think by perseverance God means that we get stronger or rather our faith becomes stronger.

Ever seen a cancer patient survive? I have. What an incredible boost to us and strengthening of us that is!

I’m also reminded of an athlete that gets stronger, or faster due to resistance! Wow, so cool.

Lord God it is difficult to see the good or positive within difficult circumstances, but help us to see the big picture!

Do a work in us, and through us to make our faith, our trusting in You, even stronger. Help our roots to go down deeper. Only You can do this Lord God Almighty. Amen and amen!

How I Almost Became Catholic

20160610_160237

Let me start by saying I have always loved the liturgy, and still do, of a Catholic Church service. They vary slightly in style, but there is always a depth and beauty that I find amazing.

So for me it began when I was going through a horrendous time in my life. My wife had survived cancer (praise be to God) but still had severe health problems. One year she had a tooth pulled and it would not heal!

That same year there were 2 times we thought the cancer was coming back. One doctor told us that was a strong possibility. Yikes!

On top of all that, a particular catastrophe occurred to me which I am still trying to recover from. It might take years. And that wasn’t all.

My wife and I were arguing big time and it was all about what kind of church we were going to go to. No I’m not kidding. It was ripping us apart.

This was all happening in the same year! So yes I was searching. And there were some people at work that I noticed, that had strong faith, and you know what? They didn’t curse. Their faith seemed beautiful.

I was not impressed with the Protestants there at all, and some of them did curse. One Protestant woman in particular cursed, and criticized others almost all the time!

So I started asking the Catholics about their faith. One woman gave me some books to read about the Saints of old, and I soaked them up like a sponge! They were fascinating.

The Saints of old had such a deep love for God. I believe this is where their strength came from.

And then in 2013 Francis became Pope! I was stunned……in a good way.

This became much longer than I expected….so Part II will be tomorrow! Stay tuned.

The Man You Have Called Me to Be

100_1620

As I get older Lord God, I am more amazed at how good You are to me

and my family. I know this earthly life is but a mist, rolling in

from the ocean, and soon this frame of mine will be

taken away, only to be given a more beautiful presence.

May I always be worthy of being with You,

and may I always be – the man

You have called me to be.

The Lord Protects

20170628_135207

“Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the Lord delivers them

in times of trouble. The Lord protects and preserves them – they are

counted as blessed in the land – he does not give them over to the desire

of their foes. The Lord sustains them on their sickbed and restores them

from their bed of illness. I said, ‘Have mercy on me Lord; heal me

for I have sinned against you.’ My enemies say of me in malice, ‘When

will he die and his name perish?’ When one of them comes to see me

he speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander; then he goes out

and spreads it around. All my enemies whisper together against me;

they imagine the worst for me…….

I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy

does not triumph over me.”

Psalm 41:1-7, 11

Trust in Him

20170726_162137

“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this:

He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,

your vindication like the noonday sun. Be still

before the Lord and wait patiently for him….”

Psalm 37: 5-7a

Isn’t it wonderful how God rewards us for following Him? And yet sometimes it doesn’t seem like that in this life. Maybe there are family members, or people on our jobs that really don’t understand us, or even want to!

Here, and in many other verses, God encourages us that He sees us, and He knows our hearts. And in these verses, He encourages us that we will be rewarded for following Him.

And there is the exhortation to commit our way to Him. That’s another way of saying to trust in Him, which He mentions again further along in this portion.

So your reward is waiting, and your vindication, is just around the bend! The tough part for us is the waiting! Trust in Him……and He will do this!! Hallelujah!!

Father God, help us to trust in You, for each and every circumstance we face! Amen.

Always in Your Strength

20171018_150605

Lord God, I pray You would help me to be true to myself,

to be who You have created me to be,

even if I am different

or not far to the right,

empower me to speak

the poems in my heart,

to be filled with Your light,

and to walk always

in Your strength.

Amen.
