Sabbatical

100_5778

Sabbatical is a word influenced by a number of languages, including Hebrew, French and Old English. Basically it means a period of rest.

I have stopped blogging, but for this site it is simply a period of rest. This site is an offering, and part of my faith walk, so it does not seem appropriate to stop altogether.

So what does one do, as they rest? Well there’s alot more time for reading! I have a list of books.

I’m no spiritual giant, but I do have more time now for prayer and meditation.

And I’m also taking more time out to take care of my health, having a couple of chronic areas of pain.

I’m grateful for you being here, and would appreciate your prayers!

I’ll be back in a few weeks, posting Monday – Friday.

Spring is just around the corner!

Peace and be blessed.

When You Seek Me

100_0947

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me

with all your heart. I will be found by you….”

Jeremiah 29:13, 14a

Jeremiah has often been called the “weeping prophet”. He prayed for his people, the people of Israel during a horrible time, when they had been taken captive and carried away to Babylon.

And yet God spoke to Jeremiah that the captivity would end! And he assured the prophet He can be found when we seek Him!

For us today, this should be tremendously encouraging. He had good things in store for the people at that time, and He has good things in store for us!

We can seek God and He will be found by us! Hallelujah!!

Heavenly Father thank you for this encouragement, that we can find You, and that You do hear our prayers. Help us through our struggles, and help us to have confidence, that we can trust in You, Our God! Amen.

In the Lord I Take Refuge

20160606_164850

“In the Lord I take refuge. How then can you say to me:

‘Flee like a bird to your mountain. For look,

the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows

against the strings to shoot from the shadows

at the upright in heart. When the foundations

are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?’”

Psalm 11:1-3

To be honest when I read these verses I often think of the mess our world is in today. Yes, the wicked have schemes, and attempt to take down the upright in heart, but look at what the psalmist is trying to do here.

We don’t have to flee like a bird. Have you ever been walking and had the birds take off as you walk by? We don’t have to be like that!

Yes, and in many cases our foundations are being destroyed and we can be tempted to get discouraged. I know I do!

But the next few verses after this portion tell us God is still on the throne! He will take care of the wickedness, he will make everything right.

The point is we can trust in Him!! Hallelujah!!

Lord God, we place our trust in You today afresh. Strengthen us and our faith! Help us not to focus on our circumstances, or the negative in our world today, even if everything is falling apart! Help us to have eyes of faith. Amen.

The Breath of Life

20170628_140600

You were created, made, shaped, formed, and breathed into – with the breath of life. You were never a random chance.

You were always a great idea from God, and your lineage is ancient, going back to the first people, ever made.

And your lineage includes a line of faith walkers. Father Abraham blazed a trail for you to follow. Keep walking…….seeking His light.

Have a blessed, healthy and faith filled, 2018!

I wish you peace.

You Are Mine

100_1054

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name;

you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;

and when you pass through the rivers, they will not

sweep over you. When you walk through the fire,

you will not be burned….”

Isaiah 43: 1b, 2a

In this portion God speaks of Israel going through a tough time, but He reaffirms his faithfulness to His people.

Ain’t it so cool when God says He is with us, and He encourages us to not be afraid? We need to hear that I think, on a regular basis, especially in today’s world.

And I love how He illustrates here the trials we face, and yet He says, “I will be with you!” We are His! Hallelujah!

Lord God thank You that You are not only all powerful, but You are with us, all the way, every day! Our God, please continue to watch over us and keep us safe. Amen.

I Will Sing of Your Love and Justice

100_5613

“I will sing of your love and justice; to you, Lord I will sing praise.

I will be careful to lead a blameless life……”

Psalm 101: 1, 2a

Sometimes we have the wrong impression about God don’t we? We can often think of Him only as a loving God, where is like a doting Grandfather, winking kindly if we do wrong. Nope, that ain’t it!

But sometimes well-meaning people can be too harsh! They can almost sound glad that God will judge those wicked sinners! That ain’t it either.

We are each accountable for the things we do in this life. God is both love and justice, in fact, the perfect balance of the two.

Here’s an example: What parent would be a good parent if we allowed our children to play in a busy street, where there are cars going back and forth? We keep them safe by giving them parameters to live by.

And notice the response of the psalmist here. He praises God and wants to live a blameless life. He is very much connected in his relationship to the Lord God.

Heavenly Father, help us to live for You, remembering You want the best for us! Amen, and amen!

Faith and Good Works

20170916_124237“What good is it my brothers and sisters,

if someone claims to have faith

but has no deeds?

Can such faith save them?

….in the same way, faith by itself,

if it is not accompanied by actions

is dead.”

James 2: 14, 17

So according to James, we need faith in order to be pleasing to Him. But this wonderful book of the Bible also tells us that good works are incredibly important!

We need faith and good works – both at the same time.

Did you know that some of the early church fathers wanted to remove this book from the Bible, and do you know why?

Because it focuses so much on doing right, and in their minds not enough about “grace”.

Heavenly Father, help us to do good, so that we can show we have faith, not to simply be religious, or proud in any way, but to lift up Who You are!

Amen! Be blessed this weekend!

I Will Give You a New Heart

20171001_145851.jpg

“For I will take you out of the nations; gather you from all the countries…..

I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean….

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you…. “

portions of Ezekiel 36: 24 – 26

You know sometimes the Old Testament can seem so foreign to us, as if it is for someone else, or perhaps it is too ancient for us today.

And yet often this part of God’s word has such power, that we realize it was for the people back then, and it is also for us today.

Here in Ezekiel we see so much of God working in a group of people, making them clean, giving them a new heart, and blessing them so that they can have a new outlook, a new life of walking with Him!

It kind of reminds me of the New Testament!

Lord God thank You that Your word is very consistent, and that You give us a new heart, a new spirit, so that we can walk with you through the challenges of life. Hallelujah!

Resting in the Shadow

100_1499

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High

will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”

Psalm 91:1

What a wonderful beginning to a wonderful Psalm! Did you know that when we follow Him, love Him, and trust in Him, we are very much dwelling in His shelter??

And dwelling in God’s shelter, brings much needed rest to our spirits. Resting in His shadow is an expression here of the peace of God, His protection, and blessing. He watches over us, and we are under His wings.

And I love the expressions in this verse, that He is the “Most High”, and the “Almighty.” When we say things like that, our confidence in who God is, gets boosted! He really is the Most High, and there is no one mightier than Him!

Heavenly Father thank You for who You are, and that you watch over us, and that we can rest in You. And that we can have complete confidence in You, and in Your power and protection! Amen!
