A Prayer for Men

Note: Yes, women can read this too.

Lord God, You know how we are made, and You know how we are taught to always be strong, to never back down. Help us Father to know when to be humble, and help us to lean on You, as our rock, our deliverer.

And Lord God protect our eyes. You know all the temptation we face each day, as this world floods the airwaves and media. Give us discernment to understand the difference between appreciating beauty in art, and going far astray.

Help us to be kind and understanding with those we love. May we make ourselves available to the women we love, even turning off the TV or the computer to give them our time, and build lasting relationships. May we always see them as wonderful gifts from You.

And God make us strong men when it comes to our faith. May we be open and yet not tossed so easily by the wind. May our hearts become beacons of light, offering hope and reason, in our messed-up world.

You are our fortress; may we walk as men filled with faith and confidence. Only You can do this Lord God! Amen and amen.

A Generous Person

“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

Proverbs 11: 25

Have you ever been blessed by a friend, perhaps with a gift? And if you have, isn’t it amazing how this gift comes at the right time? A simple kind word, or even a card can do wonders to lift our spirits. E-cards can be amazing.

Tough times are so much easier to go through when we are encouraged by someone else. I think God places people in our lives to encourage us. And you know what? God places us in circumstances, and with others, so that we can encourage them!

Have you been used to bless others? It’s not that we seek the blessing, but when we give to others we become wonderfully blessed, knowing that we have contributed something positive, something beautiful, to make our world just a little bit better.

Heavenly Father, thank you for using the people in our lives as a wonderful blessing to us! Help us to reach out to others to be a blessing too. Lord God, You are amazing, and we thank You! Amen.

Blessed is the One

“Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,

who does not look to the proud, to those

who turn aside to false gods. Many

Lord my God, are the wonders

you have done, the things

you planned for us.”

Psalm 40: 4-5a

Here the psalmist emphasizes one of the key elements of the Psalms – trusting in the Lord. This is a declaration really of faith in the One who made everything! And notice the person that does trust in God, does not look to the proud, and those who “turn aside” to false gods.

So, what are some false gods today? Well there are many. There is fame and fortune, the human body, and even nature. What?? Yes, there is healing and great peace within nature, but we must be careful to worship the Creator, and not what was made.

And I love how this portion turns to what He has made (His wonders), and how He has wonderful things planned for us. Did you know there are blessings in store for each of us? Did you know God has great plans for you?

Ain’t God amazing?

Heavenly Father thank You, that You have wonderful plans in store each one of us! Help us to trust in You more, and to be filled with faith. Amen, and amen!

God Meant it for Good

“His brothers then came and threw themselves down……..But Joseph said to them, ‘Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good……’”

Genesis 50:18, 20, 21

So many horrible things take place in our world, things we will never understand. War, poverty, shootings in schools, and the list goes on endless. And then there are those things that happen to us, deep things, we are so unbelievably hurt by.

We should never tell others that they are suffering horrible pain because they have sinned. That’s called judging them. But can God use the tragedies of our own lives somehow for our own good?

In Joseph’s case he did nothing wrong, (well maybe he was a little too proud when he was young) and yet he was hated by his brothers, was nearly killed…. but was sold into slavery instead. He ran away from temptation, was falsely accused of attempted rape, and then imprisoned!

You would think he might seek revenge, but you know what? He could see the big picture, he had a view of life that helped him to see that somehow God was at work. God used Joseph in powerful ways to save many lives.

Heavenly Father, help us to see the big picture when we are hurt by others, or by circumstances. Please bring healing to us, and help us to turn bad circumstances around. May You turn all those terrible circumstances of our lives into something better – somehow for good. Amen.

quote from the NIV Bible

Sabbatical is a word influenced by a number of languages, including Hebrew, French and Old English. Basically it means a period of rest.

I have stopped blogging, but for this site it is simply a period of rest. This site is an offering, and part of my faith walk, so it does not seem appropriate to stop altogether.

So what does one do, as they rest? Well there’s alot more time for reading! I have a list of books.

I’m no spiritual giant, but I do have more time now for prayer and meditation.

And I’m also taking more time out to take care of my health, having a couple of chronic areas of pain.

I’m grateful for you being here, and would appreciate your prayers!

I’ll be back in a few weeks, posting Monday – Friday.

Spring is just around the corner!

Peace and be blessed.

The Man You Have Called Me to Be

As I get older Lord God, I am more amazed at how good You are to me

and my family. I know this earthly life is but a mist, rolling in

from the ocean, and soon this frame of mine will be

taken away, only to be given a more beautiful presence.

May I always be worthy of being with You,

and may I always be – the man

You have called me to be.

quote from the NIV Bible

The Lord Protects

“Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the Lord delivers them

in times of trouble. The Lord protects and preserves them – they are

counted as blessed in the land – he does not give them over to the desire

of their foes. The Lord sustains them on their sickbed and restores them

from their bed of illness. I said, ‘Have mercy on me Lord; heal me

for I have sinned against you.’ My enemies say of me in malice, ‘When

will he die and his name perish?’ When one of them comes to see me

he speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander; then he goes out

and spreads it around. All my enemies whisper together against me;

they imagine the worst for me…….

I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy

does not triumph over me.”

Psalm 41:1-7, 11

The Lord is Great

“But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you;

may those who long for your saving help

always say, ‘The Lord is great!’

Psalm 40:16

Here the psalmist is praising God, in a beautiful way, with a heart of trusting Him! Ain’t that so cool?

And in a very real sense he is also praying for other people, which is called intercession. He wants everyone that seeks God’s help to have an answer to their prayers that brings joy and rejoicing! Hallelujah!

And when we all give God credit for the great and wonderful things that happen in our lives, what does that do? People notice that don’t they? And suddenly, within our praise, our faith catches on to others. We can inspire people by simply declaring what God has done!

Lord God, thank you for the great things that take place in our lives. And as we pray for other people, may great things happen in their lives as well! Help us to be filled with faith as we praise you so we can be good witnesses for You. Hallelujah! And amen!

quote from the NIV Bible

I Desire to Do Your Will

“Sacrifice and offering you did not desire – but my ears you have opened

burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require.

Then I said, ‘Here I am, I have come – it is written

about me in the scroll. I desire to do your will,

My God; your law is within my heart.”

Psalm 40:6-8

Here we see the psalmist do something very different, at least for his place and time. Remember it was God that set up the sacrificial system, involving animals. Yes, everything is very different now, but the sacrifice of animals in the Torah (first 5 books of the Old Testament) was never a man made invention.

Yet the psalmist says in this particular case, God was not interested in that! Instead his ears were opened, meaning he heard God or at least gained an understanding, that what God really wanted was the psalmist, and in particular his heart!

He turned his life, his heart to God. And these last two lines are also amazing. Having heard from God he now wants to turn his life into a life that does God’s will. It’s no longer something external. He even has God’s law in his heart!

Heavenly Father, thank for these verses that show us what Your desire is for us, that You want us to have a heart that seeks to do Your will. Strengthen our faith Lord God, and help us to walk day by day – closely with You! Amen.
